RIP NICK MANGOLD: JETS WIN FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON
- Tom Mele, Contributor
The Jets have reached the midpoint of the season and have a much needed bye week coming up. News broke Sunday morning that legendary seven time pro bowl center Nick Mangold succumbed to kidney disease at the age of 41. Jets nation was stunned as Nick reached out only a week ago through social media announcing his situation and looking for a donor.
A football game was then played and the Jets found themselves in Cincinnati trialing the Bengals 31-16 and the prospect of another loss to start the season.
Then HOCUS POCUS. It all changed l.
The Jets dug deep and outscored Cincy 23-7 in the fourth qtr to pull out an improbable 39-38 win.
The winning score coming from RB Breece Hall who became only the 4th RB in NFL history to win a game in the last two minutes by throwing a td pass. The winning catch made by Mason Taylor as the Jets played without two of their best players WR Garrett Wilson and CB Sauce Gardner.
Hall was spectacular as he carried 18 times for 133 yards and he started the 4th quarter comeback by running 27 yards for a score. QB Justin Fields threw for 223 yards, a touchdown and a two point conversion that was the difference in the winning margin. The Jets rolled up 502 yards of offense and were 7-15 on third down conversions.
What a game as the Jets (1-7) outlasted ex Jet QB Joe Flacco and picked up their first win of the year 39-38. Head Coach Aaron Glenn finally got that monkey off his back. The bye week is here and the Jets Nation will have more time to mourn and to celebrate their first win of the season.
Happy Halloween from the BCP+ and see you in November
