GIANTS WEEK 7: GROWING PAINS

- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief

To quote last week’s New York Giants recap, “There will be growing pains. There will be mistakes. There will inevitably be injuries. But, for the first time in a long time, the New York Giants gave us HOPE for the future.” Despite Big Blue’s devastating 33-32 loss to the Denver Broncos, I still feel the same way.

Although he threw a critical interception in the fourth quarter, Jaxson Dart is still playing beyond his years, AND this is only his fourth full regulation game in the NFL. Dart was able to convert some key offensive drives into points, and make some critical passes. Yes, some of his passes were a few yards long. But you can’t question his arm strength, and his IMPRESSIVE foot work in the pocket. Dart ended the night with 283 Throwing Yards, 3 Touchdowns, 1 Rushing TD, and 1 interception.

Again, Dart seemed to avoid a big injury as he favored his ankle late in the game. The guy is the definition of tough, and really played through whatever was nagging him. A true leader. Defensive Captain Brian Burns also seemed to have some sort of leg issue.

The Giant’s defense looked strong, but only through the first half of the game. Unfortunately they crumbled to the point where they were essentially ineffective during Denver’s final drive, which led to a field goal win for the Broncos.

The G-men had every opportunity to win the game, especially because of numerous favorable defensive penalties by the Denver Broncos. Unfortunately, backup Giants kicker Jude McAtamney missed two critical extra point kicks, allowing for Denver veteran kicker Will Lutz to be the hero of the game.

Not all is lost for Big Blue. New York has shown that they can hang with some of the best teams in the league. However, they are going to have to learn that every facet of every game needs to be on point. Unfortunately, tonight they learned that lesson the hard way. Time for some adjustments as the Philadelphia Eagles are next in what I would consider to be a revenge game, which could serve as another learning experience.
