GIANTS WEEK 5: G-MEN BEAT THEMSELVES AGAINST WINLESS SAINTS
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
There was an excitement in the air for Giants fans heading into a week 5 matchup in New Orleans against the 0-4 Saints. With a new exciting quarterback in young Jaxson Dart alongside powerhouse running back Cameron Skattebo, the big blue faithful finally had some emotional investment in the team. Unfortunately, the new kids in town still have a lot to learn.
Dart looked good early, throwing two touchdowns to Tight End and friend, Theo Johnson. The offense was effective moving the ball up the field, and the defense looked strong early.
Unfortunately, after the first half, the Giants beat themselves. I’m not taking any credit away from the New Orleans Saints, but FIVE turnovers were major game changers in this one. Dart not only fumbled, but threw two interceptions. Running back and fan favorite, Skattebo fumbled, asking for new gloves immediately. Both young Giants showed tons of emotion after the turnovers, many of which led to scoring plays for the Saints.
Additionally Wide Receiver Darius Slayton struggled immensely, not only dropping great passes, but fumbled in a costly turnover as well.
As Giants fans continue to grow more frustrated, I say these are growing pains. In fact, I could even make the argument that these young players need to experience games like these in order to grow. Players will learn how to adapt moving forward, but more importantly learn how to handle these situations mentally, and not fall into the quick sand.
It’s a short week for the G-men as the 4-1 Philadelphia Eagles are on deck this Thursday.
