THE DEFENDERS AND BATTLEHAWKS RIVALRY
- Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor
No recap this week, the game was a rained out train wreck for both teams. Additionally neither team even started their starting quarterbacks. Instead of a recap, let’s just go over the rivalry between the DC Defenders and the St. Louis Battlehawks
The St. Louis Battlehawks and DC Defenders have a big rivalry and history, with the Defenders holding a slight edge in head-to-head matchups. The two teams have played 7 games since 2020, with the Defenders winning 4 times and the Battlehawks winning 3.
Many of their games have been close, decided by one possession, and often determined who was the top team in the XFL/UFL conference at that point. Momentum is clearly in a favor of St. Louis though. Since 2024, the BattleHawks are 3-1 against the Defenders.
The rivalry began in the XFL, with the Battlehawks and Defenders playing in the same league. The first meeting of the 2023 season was particularly intense, with three players ejected after a brawl !
Ironically, enough, when the XFL was going, the Defenders were undefeated against St. Louis going 3-0 all time.
But since the creation of the UFL, the defenders are 1-3 against St. Louis
The Battlehawks and Defenders played each other in the final week of the 2025 UFL regular season, with the Battlehawks winning 13-8.
But next up is the game that matters most....The XFL Championship Game!!
The two teams are set to face each other again in the XFL Conference Championship Game on June 8, 2025.
Next week’s game is for all the marbles. Who will win the XFL Conference Championship and head to the United Football League championship game?!
