GIANTS WEEK 4: ANGELS IN THE BACKFIELD
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
The New York Football Giants found a way once again. This time against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday afternoon at Metlife Stadium. After an abysmal defensive showing at the start of the contest, somehow, someway, everything miraculously changed.
“Unwavering faith. It was only by the grace of God, man. There were so many supernatural things that happened today. I believe in miracles. But that was preparation, that was hard work. That was a divine interaction man, for Tay Banks just getting off his injury. Never giving up, and getting the pick six to seal the game. Wow, thank you Lord.” - Giants Quarterback Jameis Winston stated in his post-game interview.
It truly felt like there were angels in the backfield. The Cardinals scored two touchdowns on their first two opening drives. Winston was struggling to hit his receivers and the Giants were unable to convert first downs, seemingly settling for field goals once again.
The score after one quarter was 14-3 in favor of Arizona. But then something changed. Giants Rookie Avrell Reese, caught a momentum changing interception in the first half as well as Greg Newsome II.
Jameis Winston would eventually find his stride as well, hitting Malik Nabers and Theo Johnson for touchdowns in the second and third quarters respectively.
The game remained close throughout the third and fourth quarters, giving Arizona possession in the final minutes of the game with the chance to score with 1st & Goal after a defensive pass interference call on the Giants. Miraculously not only did the Giants defense hold the line, but with eleven seconds left in the game, cornerback Deonte Banks intercepted Arizona’s final pass attempt and ran back a 98 yard pick six to secure the win for big blue.
It was another miracle ending at Metlife Stadium. The Giants now stand at the top of the NFC EAST with a 3-1 record. Despite several significant injuries to players like Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns, among others, coach Harbaugh has continued to find a way. The Giants will have a chance to make a big move next week as they take on division rivals the Washington Commanders.
