AEW'S BRANDON CUTLER INTERVIEW
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
All Elite Wrestling star Brandon Cutler took a few minutes to chat with BCP+ ahead of his five way scramble match for the PWJ Massacre Championship last month at Pro Wrestling Junkie in Ridgefield Park, NJ. Known for both his more serious solo dragon character and levity driven goofy character with the Young Bucks, Cutler is also using his platform to fight pediatric cancer.

Thanks for a few minutes Mr. Cutler. I wanted to talk about the custom Mania Club wrestling ring clickers with proceeds from each clicker going to the cause in the fight against pediatric cancer.
Yeah, it’s been a great pleasure. I’m kind of proud of making these little cool little wrestling ring clickers that nobody has done before. And so I was like, hey, that’s a cool thing. I’ll kind of make it my own. We’ve also done several different charities. I’ve already done one with Petco. So I’ve done stuff with dogs and kids, and now working with Mania Club with September being Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a great pleasure to be able to use my platform to give back.
Thank you again for doing that. Let’s talk shop. You are in a five way scramble tonight for the PWJ Massacre Championship. How you feelin’ going into this one?
It’s a lot of guys. I’m familiar with three ways. Those are a lot of fun. Five guys, that’s a lotta bodies at all times. It’s not gonna be enough to just have eyes in the back of my head. I need eyes everywhere. It’s gonna be nonstop bodies everywhere.
You have shown tremendous range in your career. Talk to us about your personas, and also the importance of levity in wrestling.
I started in AEW kind of unsure about what I wanted to do. Like everyone says be yourself and dial it up to eleven. Then I realized I’m a big geek, I’m a big nerd. I love table top gaming and Dungeons & Dragons. I want to be that bridge between the two communities of table top gaming and wrestling. So that’s where I had that idea. I wanted to look like I walked right out of a D & D campaign. So that was that Dragon I did for the whole pandemic era with the red dragon mask and everything.
I’m also a big goofball, so that’s kind of how the stooge character came around. I had a lot of fun doing that, and I’m proud of that. That was a good time. It’s like the three faces of Foley thing, I like these creations that I’ve done with the dragon and the stooge, but I think there’s a great connect to table top gaming and wrestling, where I feel like we are in the same Venn diagram. I just want to be the bridge for that, so that’s why I’m going back to more of the dragon.
And whatever you are comfortable with sharing here, but is there any sort of backstage or creative role you are filling in AEW right now?
Anytime I can kind of give someone a note or line to crisp something up, if it’s in a promo or a match. Like what if this person said a line that leads into your line. No one ever is gonna know you did that because credit is going to the person that said it. But that’s kind of one of those things, like any coach, no one is going to know what you’re doing except you, but that’s reward enough.

Any advice you’d have for some of these up and comers here at PWJ tonight?
I’ll admit I did my homework. I looked up all the guys in my match. Just seeing them I was already blown away. I was like, oh boy, this is who I’m wrestling? I was already thinking we’ll see, but these guys are already ready. They don’t need me to say anything. This is gonna be a good match. They are gonna be great.
