GIANTS WEEK 7: YES WE CAM!!
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
A lot can change in the span of one week. New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo was essentially benched during last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints, participating in only six offensive snaps. Fast forward to this afternoon’s matchup against the Houston Texans, where Skatt rushed for 124 yards and a gamechanging touchdown.
After last week’s game Skatt handled his punishment with maturity and accountability when talking to the local media. “It’s hard. I’ve made mistakes and I’ve got to own up to them. If that’s what they want to do, keep me on the sidelines because of that…. I totally understand.” Conversely, running back Najee Harris who complained about the current running back rotation was immediately cut from the team after his comments.
Patience, maturity, and accountability led to number 44 overtaking this game. After a critical 16 yard touchdown, Skatt screamed, did a backflip, and hugged Coach Harbaugh, who looked like a proud dad during an incredibly emotional moment. Coach Harbaugh is incredibly firm, but seems to be instilling lessons within his team every single week.
Skatt also set up the game winning touchdown in the final drive of overtime, running for his longest run of the season, 42 yards. This helped set up Devin Singletary for the game winning touchdown. The Giants win this one 27-21, staying atop the NFC East. After the game Skatt, Singletary, and Tyrone Tracy posed together in another emotional moment.
The Giants are riding high, but as always it comes at a cost. Dan Graziano of ESPN reports that Cam told him that he felt something in his hamstring during the final carry of the game. Cam was noticeably limping a bit after his final carries of the game. Hopefully it is nothing serious, and the Giants can continue to ride this current wave of momentum.
The Giants are eating some W’s as they head into a much needed bye week, before they take on division rivals The Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 8th
