GIANTS DEFEAT COWBOYS IN SEASON OPENER

The NEW New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys Sunday Night in East Rutherford, NJ in the first game of the John Harbaugh regime. Big Blue came out of the gate with a strong run game, displayed several new stars in the making, and showed some aggressive yet firm decision making by the new head coach. 

 

Giants Tight End Isaiah Likely went 8 for 8 in receptions, for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Likely who had previously been coached by Harbaugh, looked like an absolute star in this game, coming up with multiple key plays. Second year quarterback Jaxson Dart threw for three touchdowns on 230 throwing yards, and 54 rushing yards. Dart played aggressively and seems to be making better decisions both when throwing the ball, and avoiding hits on rush attempts. Running Back Cam Skattebo ran for 81 yards and one touchdown, while Devin Singletary made some key first down conversions. The offense looked strong and quite frankly, ahead of their years. 

 

Although holding Dallas to only 244 offensive yards, the Giants defense left something to be desired. The final score of 28-20 was truly a result of great offensive play by the G-men. Although Jevon Holland recorded one interception, the secondary recorded zero sacks. The defense is something Giants fans will play close attention to in the coming weeks. 

 

Fans however remain cautiously optimistic that this team could truly be something special. A lot of the pieces are there, and the new coach seems to be highly respected by the players. After the game, Harbaugh was presented with the game ball. Conversely, Malik Nabers was given the ball from Jaxson Dart the second the game was over. Nabers, who was not sure if he would be able to play week 1, made the decision to play, contributing greatly with 6 receptions for 69 yards and three first downs. 

 

After defeating their greatest rival, Big Blue looks forward to the Detroit Lions Monday Night in week 2. Only time will tell if this incarnation of the G-men is truly the real deal.
