WWE HALL OF FAMER LITA VISITS FIGHTIN PHILS'
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
WWE Hall of Famer Lita is a trailblazer in the world of women’s wrestling and pro wrestling at large. The four time WWE Women’s World Champion main evented Monday Night Raw on December 6th, 2004 with Trish Stratus, becoming the first two women to main event the show in history. A pillar of women’s wrestling, Lita would go on to become a first ballot WWE Hall of Famer, and even become a Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Becky Lynch. The “Rebel by Design” joined the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Friday July 17th, to throw out the first pitch and participate in a special meet & greet during the game. BCP+ had the privilege to chat with the WWE Hall of famer…
An honor to talk to you today. What’s it like being here today meeting the fans, celebrating both the Fightin’ Phils and pro wrestling?
I love it. I love when I have two of my loves, wrestling and baseball.
I know you get this a lot, but my fiance may or may not have a Lita tattoo on the back of her neck. You are her reason. Not to be cliche, but what does it mean to you to be such a trailblazer in this industry?
I really love it. It does not get old. Whether somebody made their way in wrestling, or something else inspired them to chase whatever it is they want. It never gets old and I really love it.
In addition to your question. Somebody that’s been in indie wrestling. Somebody that is tried and true. And someone I need to watch out for, you said, you tell me…. And the first person I said was Vicious Vicki.
Michael Cole mentioned you a few weeks back on RAW in comparison to women like Sol Ruca in regards to offense. Also, I believe you are both surfers. What does that mean to you, and have you been watching a little bit?
Oh yes, for sure. I love watching Sol. She is undeniably an amazing athlete. But really what I think sets her apart is that she does have that intangible charisma. You know, someone can practice a move and maybe get it eventually, but what sets them apart is what you can’t buy and what you can’t practice, and she has that.
The last time we saw you on WWE television, you were jumped backstage and then nothing. We want more Lita. Will we see more Lita? Will there be more to this story?
Yeh, that came to a screeching halt. I will say whenever I come back it takes a minute to get your stride, plus you have to feel back at home. Post WrestleMania I was really starting to catch a stride and then it just came to an abrupt end. I thought maybe maybe they would bring that story back around but yeh…. I guess we’re supposed to forget.
I believe you’ve done some charity work with dogs, and have had a dog for a long time. Can you tell us about that?
I’m a long time animal advocate, longtime vegan, longtime animal welfare advocate. I traveled with my dog, and she was almost 21 when she passed. I adopted her at about 2 years old. I’ve been working and volunteering with animal rescues. I actually have a current foster if anyone wants it. A senior pitbull, I got you!!
Any advice you would have for the up & coming independent talent here in the northeast?
The Northeast wrestling scene is always super hot, and there’s a lot of shows you can go to. You can’t just stick to one group even though you’re guaranteed a booking. You got to get out there and face different opponents. You have to get out there, and get uncomfortable.
