UFC 300 REVIEW

- Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor

The Hype for UFC 300 was pretty insane as the card was stacked from top to the bottom. The event showcased eleven fights featuring twelve current and former world champions. You know a card is massive when the first fight of the night is a fight that could main event any Fight Night of the year.

So let’s go over some of the incredible fights and moments from a PPV that not only lived up to the hype, but surpassed it.

  • Figueiredo submitted Garbrandt in the first fight of the night.

This was a fight between two former world champions and it was a great way to start to the night. Check out my UFC 300 Predictions to see how I did on this overall card.

  • Green Defeats Miller by Unanimous Decision

How tough is Jim Miller ? That’s a rhetorical question because he’s tough as hell. He’s the only fighter to be on the card for UFC 100, UFC 200 and UFC 300. Bobby Green busted Jim open and really had him hurt a couple times but Jim never caved. He stayed in the fight and even hurt Bobby a couple times himself. But in the end it was clear that Bobby won the fight. Jim was a bloody mess by the time it was over.

  • Andrade Defeats Rodriguez by split decision

This was a Decent fight, it felt like Rodriguez wasn’t able to get in a rhythm. Jessica is just such a powerful striker that it makes you have to worry about that the entire fight instead of trying to stick with your game plan.

  • Moicano beat Turner by TKO

This was WILD, Turner is gonna regret his decisions in this fight for a LONG TIME. He knocked Moicano down and had him hurt BADLY. But instead of jumping on him and finishing the fight, he tried to have a “walk off”

knock out. It didn’t happen and Moicano was able to recover and finish him in the next round.

  • Lopez beat Yusuff by KO

Lopez is bad dude, and I was completely wrong that this would be a good fight for Yusuff. He got his world rocked and Lopez is now ranked.

  • Harrison beat Holm by submission

This fight when exactly how i thought it would. Kayla used her incredible grappling and strength and beat a legend.

  • Sterling beat Kattar by unanimous decision

Another fight that nailed perfectly in my predictions. Sterling used his wrestling to control the fight the entire time.

  • Procházka beat Rakić by KO

This was a war! One of the most entertaining and exciting fights of the night. Jiri is a bad man, and he fights recklessly but in the end it works. He fights with his hands down and his head first. I don’t think any MMA coach in the world would recommend doing that. But in the end when you have the power and confidence that Jiri does it works.

  • Nickal beat Brundage by unanimous decision

Not too much to say about this one as it went exactly as everyone thought.

  •    Tsarukyan beat Oliveira by spilt decision

This was a great fight and a true chess match at that. Charles had a TIGHT guillotine in the first minute that most people would have not been able to survive.  But Arman was able to and he won the fight mostly through his stellar wrestling ability.

  • Holloway beat Gaethje by KO to win the BMF title

This is the fight that has everyone talking. This was the fight of the night and most likely going to be the fight of the year. Max hurt Justin early at the end of round with a spitting back kick that broke Justin’s nose. Justin being the warrior he is, still fought all five rounds with Max and they went to war.

Max was clearly winning the fight and with about 10 seconds left pointed to the floor and told Justin let’s stand and bang. The two did just that and max was able to have one of the most flashy Knock outs Ever. Max knocked him out with one second left of the fight !

It was incredible.

  • Weili Defeated Xiaonan by unanimous decision to retain The Woman’s Straw Weight Championship

There was a crazy moment when Zhang choked out Yan as time expired in the first round. The clock hit zero and Yan was then out. She was cleary out but because when the time expired she had a chance to make it back to her corner and keep the fight going. She then went another 4 rounds with the champ. This was quite impressive.

  • Pereira beat Hill by KO

Besides the max Holloway knockout, this was the moment of the night like I said in my predictions, Alex is the scariest man in the UFC in my opinion. The dude has the touch of death, the ability to not even connect fully on a punch, but still knock his opponent out cold, which is what he did to Hill..

The crazy thing was that he accidentally hit Alex in the groin. The ref tried to step in to give the guys a break in the action, but Alex told him to keep the fight going, a couple seconds later, hitting up a upper cut, Alex knocked hill out.

It was another incredible moment to cap off an amazing pay-per-view. Keep it here on BCP+ for coninued UFC coverage.
