WWE SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT REVIEW
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
On the road to WWE SummerSlam, Saturday Night’s Main event provided a roller coaster of ups and downs that consisted of hard hitting action, an untimely injury, and a heartfelt farewell.
Let’s start with the main event, and WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg’s farewell match. In my humble opinion this was one of Goldberg’s better WWE matches, as The World Heavyweight Champion Gunther was the PERFECT opponent for the former World Champ . Goldberg no selling chops and laughing at Gunther was tremendous. Missed spears which resulted in barrier crashes and ref bumps were perfect for the match. Gunther made Goldberg look very strong at this point in his career. I honestly don’t think it could have gone better. Despite taking the L to the Ring General, Goldberg looked like a million bucks going out on his back. Even more so, Goldberg shared a tremendous retirement speech after Saturday Night’s Main Event went off the air.
One of the more devastating moments of the night was the untimely injury of Money in the Bank briefcase holder, Seth Rollins during his match with LA Knight which was cut short. Rollins missed a routine middle rope moonsault landing awkwardly, noticeably favoring his knee. Great job by referee Jess Karr and the medical team tending to Rollins immediately. Rollins stood up and took Knight’s finisher to end the match. Both men were visibly frustrated and online fan footage shows Rollins absolutely furious at the whole situation. It begs the question what will happen next with the briefcase, but more importantly we send our well wishes to Mr. Rollins as he recovers.
Another short match was the bout between Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre. The involvement of recording artist Jelly Roll and now Logan Paul played an important role in this match, as Jelly shoved Paul, distracting Drew. Orton IMMEDIATELY took advantage with a vintage RKO OUT OF NOWHERE for the quick win. This leads us to an official SummerSlam match of Orton/Jelly Roll VS. Logan Paul/ Drew McIntyre.
Bloodline drama was in full force as United States Champion Solo Sikoa defended against his brother Jimmy Uso. As expected the bloodline members continued to implode as Talla Tonga and Tama Loa did everything in their power to give Solo the upper hand and the win. Post-match Jacob Fatu makes his presence known as we see a continuing alliance between him and Jimmy Uso. It looks like the bloodline story is finally heating back up, and I am here for it.
Solid show on Saturday Night during what was a buffet of a pro wrestling weekend. Keep it here on BCP+ and socials for all your WWE coverage.
