JETS START THE SEASON 0-3

- Tom Mele, Contributor

Never a dull moment as a Jets fan.

Tampa, Florida:    The Jets came back from 23-6 and in one of the more exciting plays in Jets history went ahead 27-26 with 1:49 left to play.   With Tampa up 26-20 and trying to seal the win with a FG Jets DE Will McDonald shot through the middle of the line and blocked the attempt, picking it up and returning it 50 yards to the end zone.  The Bucs were not phased as they proceeded to drive down the field and for the third straight week to start the season win a game in the last minute as Chase Mclaughlin kicked a 36 yard FG as time expired.

Tampa became the first team on the Super Bowl era to win on the final minute of the 4th quarter in each of it’s first three games. The Jets meanwhile, have started 0-3 for the third time is six years. Aaron Glenn becomes the fourth coach to start his career at 0-3 along with Lou Holtz (1976), Adam Gase (2019) and Robert Saleh (2021.

Tyrod Taylor played for the injured Justin Field and was 26 of 36 for 197 yards, two touchdowns and one very costly interception at the end of the first half that was returned 55 yards for a score.  WR Garrett Wilson caught 10 for 84 and one TD.

The Jets managed only 267 total yards of offense and committed two turnovers and were sacked four times.  On the flip side they were only able to get to Baker Mayfield once who completed 19 of 29 for 233 yards and one TD to go along with 44 yards rushing.

Tampa committed an absurd 14 penalties for 124 yards and the Jets were 7 for 81.

CB Sauce Gardner had to leave the game in the second half but returned passing concussion protocol.  LB Quincy Williams was not as fortunate as the JETs leading tackler injured his shoulder in the first half.  His MRI will determine his status next week as the Jets face the 0-3 Miami Dolphins on Monday Night.
