LONG STORY LONGER II EP REVIEW

Kelvin Kately, Contributor

People are very quick to say “real” hip hop has faded away. The Long Story Longer 2 EP is an excellent example of why it hasn’t. There are still legends in the game that are putting on for their cities and culture.

Executive Producer LaBront ”LB” Askew brought major fire power to the table on this latest LSL offering. This EP is the perfect hip hop gumbo. It is a blend of several styles and flavors, yet mixes perfectly to give the listener a pleasant experience.

Whether it is the JUSTCHILLBEATS produced “Goodbye” that touches on a man’s emotions while in a combative situation or the ultra slick message that friendship and money should never be confused on “NNAM”, the album packs quite a punch.

There is also a nostalgia about this album that, oddly, feels new. Hearing Kurupt brought me back to hearing “Let’s Play House” for the time. At the same time, I held appreciation that he brought it as only he could.

The same can be said for Obie Trice. The “real name, no gimmick” rapper has never had a bad verse in my opinion and he did not break tradition.

But the biggest surprise on this album was the blend of legends. Flavor Flav, Spice 1, Bizarre, MC Eiht and Keith Murray all made appearances and KILLED!!

Overall, this album is excellent. They used old school rules and applied new school tools to make this EP truly stand out. It is long enough to get their message across and short enough to hold your attention.

Long Story Longer has made it a tradition to showcase legends in a proper way. I truly hope this is a sign of things to come. The EP is available on all platforms. It is most definitely worth a listen. Go check it out!
