YANKEES ADVANCE TO ALCS!!
- April Claudio, Contributor
Game 4 of the ALDS saw Gerrit Cole against Michael Wacha. Cole pitched a stellar 7 innings, gave up 1 run and struck out 4. Wacha pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up 2 runs and struck out 2.
Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres stayed hot. Torres leading off, hit a double in the first inning and scored on a single by Juan Soto. Torres also hit a RBI single in the fifth inning.
Aaron Judge finally got a hit in the sixth inning and scored on a single by Stanton.
Also that inning, Maikel Garcia was tagged out at second and appeared to have some words for Anthony Volpe which caused Jazz Chisholm Jr. to get involved which then caused both dugouts and bullpens to come out onto the field. A few more words were exchanged as each team tried to make sure Chisholm Jr. and Garcia didn’t get close to each other. After everyone settled down, Bobby Witt Jr. got a hit and scored on a double by Vinnie Pasquatino.
In the seventh inning Tommy Pham hit a single and with 2 outs, Kyle Isbel hit a ball to the warning track but Soto caught it up against the wall to end the inning. If it had been a home run, it would have tied the game.
With 2 outs in the eighth inning Judge walked, stole second and then got to third on a wild pitch to Stanton. With a 3-2 count the Royals intentionally walked Stanton so they could do a pitcher change. Duke Ellis, brought up from the minors for his speed, pinch ran for Stanton but unfortunately Chisholm Jr. grounded out to second to end the inning.
Clay Holmes pitched the eighth inning and gave up no hits, and struck out one.
Going into the ninth inning with the score 3-1, the Yankees didn’t get any hits and only got one man on base, Jon Berti walked.
But Luke Weaver, who has had a stellar performance lately, came in to close the game; and with 2 strikeouts and a line out to Judge, the Yankees won and advanced to the ALCS!
Who will they play? We fill find out Saturday as the Tigers and Guardians play game 5 of their series.
