YANKEES WIN 2 AGAINST ROYALS

Monday night the Yankees began a 3 game series against the Kansas City Royals. Carlos Rodon got the start against Brady Singer. Rodon pitched six innings, gave up 4 runs (only 3 earned) and struck out 9. Singer pitched five innings and gave up 3 runs. Salvador Perez put the Royals up 2-0 early with a RBI single in the first inning and a solo home run in the second inning. In the fourth inning the Yankees scored 3 runs. Jasson Dominguez scored on a throwing error and Alex Verdugo hit a 2 run home run. Perez hit another RBI single in the fifth inning to tie the game. Hunter Renfroe hit a solo home run in the sixth inning putting the Royals ahead again. But the Yankees scored 4 more runs in the seventh inning. Aaron Judge hit a RBI single and Austin Wells hit a 3 run home run. They scored 2 more runs in the eighth inning. Gleyber Torres hit a RBI single and Wells hit a RBI double. The Yankees won 10-4. Jake Cousins earned the win and James McArthur earned the loss.
Tuesday night, game 2 went to the Royals as All Star Seth Lugo dominated on the mound against the struggling of late Marcus Stroman. Lugo pitched seven shut out innings, only giving up 3 hits and he struck out 10. Stroman gave up 3 runs in 5 1/3 innings and struck out 4. The Royals held the Yankees to 0 hits with 4 strike outs in the last two innings as well. Salvador Perez continued to get the runs for the Royals, with 2 RBI singles. Bobby Witt Jr. had a RBI single, Maikel Garcia hit a RBI sacrifice fly and Tommy Pham hit a solo home run. The Royals won 5-0. Lugo earned his 16th win.
Wednesday night was Luis Gil against Cole Ragans. Gil continued to pitch well after recently returning from the injured list. He pitched five innings, gave up 1 run and struck out 5. Ragans also pitched well, pitching 6 six innings with 7 strikeouts and 2 runs. The Yankees used 5 relief pitchers as the game went into extra innings. Whereas the Royals only used 3. Michael Massey hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Juan Soto hit a 2 run home run in the sixth inning. Salvador Perez hit a RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to tie the game. Into the tenth inning and Dairon Blanco scored on a wild pitch by Jake Cousins. But Austin Wells hit a RBI sacrifice fly to tie the game again. Luke Weaver dominated with a 1-2-3 11th inning and Jazz Chisholm Jr. came through with the walk off RBI single to win the game. Final score 4-3, Yankees win.
With no break the Yankees will finish out the week with a 4 game series against the Boston Red Sox.
