DC DEFENDERS WEEK 6 RECAP:
TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS
- Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor
The Defenders welcome The Brahmas on Sunday, aiming to avoid a series sweep after falling to San Antonio in Week 1.
DC was coming off their worse loss of the season, taking a beating from St. Louis. So to turn around and have to play a team that already beat them earlier in the season, could be a mentally Jarring thing. Could The Defenders go 3-3 and get a big win? Or would they fall to 2-4 and put their season in danger?
The Defenders weren't about to let anyone come into their house and start running the show. They might have lost their first ever home game last week, but they were darn sure not going to let that happen again. The squad';s defense pounced on the first drive of the game, as Anthoula Kelly made off with an interception to end San Antonio's opening drive.
The big plays continued in the first quarter for the Defenders, as their defensive unit forced a turnover on downs in the red zone midway through the quarter. Unfortunately for DC, our turnover problem would continue. After the Brahmas jumped on a fumble in the backfield, Ryan Santoso knocked in a 43-yard field goal for the game's first points.
Brahmas 3 - Defenders 0
The Defenders scored their first touchdown of the game late in the second half, as Cam’ron Harris got into the end zone on a 2-yard run. The emphatic drive spanned 99 yards and took 12 plays to complete. The Defenders added a field goal midway through the third quarter to make it a six-point game, but the Brahmas answered quickly, capping off a 13-play drive with a touchdown to even things up.
9-9
The Defenders regained the lead after a INCREDIBLE 58-yard field goal early in the final moments, but the Brahmas evened things up once again with a 40-yard FG on the ensuing drive.
12-12
The Defenders had an incredible kick return touchdown. But it unfortunately got called back because the receiver apparently stepped out of bounds. Watching it live from the press box I didn’t see him step out of bounds, but apparently he did. They then marched the ball down the field for another touchdown, but this play got called backas well for offensive passing interference.
The third time would be the charm as Jordan would hit Harmon would a touchdown.
18 DC - 12 San Antonio
With The Defenders taking back the lead late in the fourth quarter, they then sealed the win after denying the Brahmas's lateral attempt on their final drive. The Defenders were able to get revenge for the week one loss. This was a huge win and came at a really good time for DC. Their division is too good to be down 2-4
Now sitting at 3-3 the Defenders have the opportunity to still play for the title if they can finish off
the season strong. The 14,303 people at the game really helped give the team the momentum and really helped
them to get this victory. Shields ️ up this week !
Next week we play another good team in the Michigan Panthers. They have the best kicker in
the entire league and we have the second best kicker so this game should be very interesting.
I’ll be there covering the game LIVE for our continued coverage on BCP+.
