GUARDIANS BEAT YANKEES IN EXTRA INNINGS

Thursday night, Clarke Schmidt pitched against Matthew Boyd. Schmidt gave up 2 runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked 2 and struck out 2. Boyd gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 5 innings, walked 3 and struck out 4.
The Yankees scored first with a RBI single by Jose Trevino in the second inning. This was Trevino’s first postseason start. The Guardians had 1 stolen base between the first two games of the series. In this game, with Trevino behind the plate, they had 3 stolen bases.
The Guardians took the lead in the third inning with a two run home run by Kyle Manzardo.
Ian Hamilton pitched the sixth inning for the Yankees and struggled. He walked two batters and two batters also stole third. The Guardians scored another run off an RBI single by Andres Gimenez.
The Yankees took the lead in the eighth inning with back to back home runs. Aaron Judge hit a 2 run home run and Giancarlo Stanton followed with a solo home run.
Tommy Kahnle, pitching the eighth inning, got into some trouble allowing two batters on base but Luke Weaver came in and ended the inning.
In the ninth inning, Anthony Volpe walked to lead off the inning. Alex Verdugo grounded out into a fielders choice at second while Volpe got lucky going to third. Ramirez dropped the ball as he collided with Volpe for the tag. Volpe then scored on a sacrifice fly by Gleyber Torres. The Yankees were now winning 5-3.
Weaver almost had the save but blew it with only needing one more out to get the save and the win for the Yankees. The Guardians brought in Jhonkensy Noel to pinch hit who hit a 2 run home run to tie the game.
In the tenth inning, Judge lead off and struck out looking. Stanton walked and Jaysson Dominguez was brought in to pinch run. Jazz Chisholm Jr. grounded out and Rizzo was intentionally walked. With 2 outs and a runner on base Volpe struck out swinging.
Clay Holmes came in to pitch the tenth inning for the Yankees. With 2 outs and a runner on base David Fry, who entered the game in the seventh inning, hit a walk off 2 run home run to get the win.
Guardians won 7-5. The Yankees lead the ALCS 2-1.
Friday night Luis Gil will pitch against Gavin Williams as the Yankees attempt to stop the Guardians from tying the series.
