Jets Week 12 Report

-Tom Mele, Contributor

The Jets were handed their fourth consecutive loss as they were dumped by the Miami Dolphins 34-13 in the first ever “Black Friday” NFL telecast at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Tim Boyle started his first game at quarterback for the benched Zach Wilson but it did not matter. The offense was only able to score a short 1-yard TD to Garrett Wilson with 4:37 to go when the game was already out of reach.

The Jets (4-7) fell behind early 10-0 but as the first half was coming to an end CB Brandon Echols intercepted a Tua Tagovailoa pass and returned it 30 yards for a pick-six.

The Jets had life, but K Greg Zuerlein missed the extra point cutting the lead to 10-6 and foreshadowing this was not the Jets Day.

Tagovailoa was intercepted again on the next possession and on the last play of the first half the Jets called to throw a “Hail Mary” into the end zone. What happened next was a stamp on how the 2023 season has been going for Gang Green. Miami S Jevon Holland intercepted the pass at the one-yard line and instead of downing the ball and ending the half Holland weaved and sprinted his was down the field returning the interception all the way for 99 yards and a td that shocked the Jets and the fans at MetLife.

Trailing 17-6 at the half the game was unofficially over. Miami (8-3) outgained the Jets 395-159 and were able to run the ball for 167 yards with Raheem Mostert gaining 94 yards on 20 carries and scoring two td’s. Mostert leads the NFL with 12 rushing TD’s and two additional are via the air.

Tagovalioa finished 21 for 30 for 243 yards and a TD pass to Tyreek Hill with the two interceptions. Hill celebrated his first quarter TD by blowing a kiss to his recently wedded wife of two weeks Keeta Vaccaro.

Jets QB Tim Boyle was 27 for 38 for 179 yards, the TD pass to Wilson and two picks. The running game was nonexistent as RB Breece Hall one of the most dynamic offensive players in the NFL was held to just 25 yards on 7 carries. The season will continue Dec 3 at MetLife as they host the Atlanta Falcons.

Miami continues it march the AFC division crown with a road game against the Washington Commanders.
