5 TAKEAWAYS FROM WWE ELMINATION CHAMBER
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
The debut of Danhausen seems to be the talk of the town coming out of Saturday Night’s Elimination Chamber PLE. Despite mixed opinions, I thought the debut was absolutely BRILLIANT. If you know Danhausen, ALL of the pieces were in plain sight. To have both GMS crack open the crate to reveal a coffin full of Danhausen dancers, new music, and the very nice, very evil one himself, was a thing of perfection. It will be interesting to see where exactly Danhausen fits into WWE programming, but I think it is a VERY good problem to have. This is something out of left field that I feel will generate revenue in merchandise and perhaps build a connection with some of the younger fans in the WWE Universe.
No one saw Randy Orton winning the Elimination Chamber despite the constant reminder of the quest for 15 World Championships from the commentary team. I love this move and the resulting aftermath. Because of Drew’s Interference, Nick Aldis has made an impromptu WWE Championship match between McIntyre and Cody Rhodes in what may be a can’t miss episode of SmackDown. This very likely will set the stage for Orton vs. Rhodes on the grandest stage of them all.
AJ Lee had a great showing in her return to singles action. Conversely, this was her first championship bout in over a decade. Solid match between AJ and Lynch, but Jessica Carr was just as important. I’m enjoying this version of Becky Lynch not only on tv but on social media.
Rhea and Iyo losing the tag team championships on Saturday to Nia and Lash was very telling. The Women’s Elimination Chamber match stole the show, and Rhea was the safe choice. Great showing by ALL 6 of the women who left in all in the ring. Rhea now gets another marquee match on the grandest stage of them all, and deservedly so. Can Jade Cargil step up to the challenge? It is make or break time for the Women’s WWE Champion.
CM Punk and Finn Balor had a great match, and the Chicago Bulls entrance with Ray Clay on the PA was the icing on the cake. Finn takes the L as expected, but we may finally see more of a babyface side of him after this bout. Nice ending with Punk and his wife AJ sharing the ring together with their respective championships.
