JETS WEEK 9 RECAP: MOMENTUM IS YOUR FRIEND
- Tom Mele, Contributor
Momentum in sports is real. It isn't tangible. You can't touch it or taste it, but you can feel it.
We saw it happen twice on the biggest stage in baseball last week as Freddie Freeman's Game One grand slam gave the Dodgers the momentum and then Anthony Volpe of the Yankees in Game Four took it back with his own grand slam. The fifth inning of Game 5 was was momentum collapsing for the Yankees. And the rest is History.
Thursday night at Metlife Stadium New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, "I just kind of lobbed one up there and he (Garrett Wilson) made an unbelievable catch. That was a huge play ...That's a game changing play."
Could it be a season saving play?
WR Garrett Wilson made a one-handed catch in the back of the endzone on a 3rd and 19 that snapped the Jets five game losing streak 21-13 over the playoff bound Houston Texans (6-3)
What made the catch more remarkable was the ability and awareness of Wison to slide his shin in the end zone as his momentum took him out of bounds. There is that word again.
Rodgers threw three TD passes, two of them to Wilson and one to his favorite target WR Davante Adams who finally got on the same page with 7 catches for 91 yards.
The Jets are now 3-6 and there is much work to be done but in professional sports there is 'lady luck", and in the NFL there is "anything can happen on any given Sunday". Maybe this "Momentum" is here to stay.
The Jets will see if it carries over next week in Arizona. See you all next week right here on BCP+.
