YANKEES SWEEP A'S

Friday night Gerrit Cole and the Yankees took the Oakland A’s into extra innings. Cole pitched 9 innings, gave up 1 run and struck out 7. J.T. Ginn pitched 5 innings, gave up 1 run and struck out 4 for the A’s. Shea Langeliers hit a RBI single in the fourth inning but the Yankees tied the game the next inning with a RBI single by Anthony Volpe. With the score 1-1 the game went into the 10th inning. Jasson Dominguez started on second base. Anthony Rizzo hit a single moving Dominguez to third. Oswaldo Cabrera pinch ran for Rizzo. Dominguez scored on a passEd ball by Langeliers. Juan Soto pinch hit for Trent Grisham and hit a double allowing Cabrera to score. Jon Berti pinch ran for Soto and scored on a single by Anthony Volpe. Luke Weaver gave up a RBI single to the first A’s batter but struck out the next 3. Yankees won 4-2.

Saturday night Carlos Rodon and the Yankees shut out the A’s. Rodon pitched 6 innings, gave up 5 hits and struck out 4. He then watched from the dugout as Mark Leiter Jr. and Mayza closed out the game. Both gave up no hits and no runs. JP Sears, on the other hand, did not pitch well, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings and Brandon Bielak gave up 4 runs in 1 2/3 innings. The Yankees scored 6 runs in the first three innings. Sears got into trouble at the start of the first inning. Gleyber Torres and Juan Soto hit singles and Aaron Judge walked to load the bases. Giancarlo Stanton hit into a double play but Torres scored. Jasson Dominguez then hit a RBI single. Anthony Volpe hit a solo home run in the second inning and Stanton hit a 3 run home run in the third inning. The Yankees didn’t score again until the seventh inning when Judge hit is 54th home run. After that and 2 walks, a run scored on a groundout fielders choice by Volpe and 2 more runs scored on a single by Torres. Yankees won 10-0.

Sunday Luis Gil pitched against Joey Estes. Gil pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up 4 runs and struck out 5. Estes pitched 4 innings, gave up 5 runs and struck out 1. This time the A’s took the lead early scoring 2 runs in the first inning off a double by Tyler Soderstrom and a fielding error by Anthony Volpe. But the Yankees answered quickly with 2 run home run by Jasson Dominguez in the second inning. Aaron Judge hit a solo home run, #55, in the third inning. Gleyber Torres hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a RBI sacrifice fly to add 2 more runs. The A’s scored 2 more runs in the sixth inning off a double by Ryan Noda but that was it for them. Giancarlo Stanton hit a RBI double in the seventh inning and Austin Wells hit a RBI double in the ninth inning. Yankees won 7-4.

Tuesday night the Yankees start a 3 game series against the Baltimore Orioles. They can clinch the AL East Division with one win out of that series.

In other news Jake Cousins was put on the 15 day injured list and Lou Trivino is no longer rehabbing in the minors. Aaron Boone is hopeful that Cousins will be available for the playoffs.
