5 TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS WEEK IN WWE

- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief

It wasn’t a direct road to WrestleMania, but Cody Rhodes’ detour to the grandest stage of them all, was certainly an effective one. I don’t mind the roundabout way we got to Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania, and I’m certainly excited for the promos in the weeks to come. Another babyface vs. babyface main event at WrestleMania 42, and I am here for it. Randy Orton aiming for 15 could be VERY significant in this one.

After the polarizing debut of Danhausen at Elimination Chamber, his appearances on both RAW and SmackDown have been anything but. After cursing Dominik Mysterio and seemingly aligning himself with The Miz, we are set for months of comedy gold. Remember in his debut, his entrance music starts with “YOU ARE CURSED!” and ended with him disappearing from the middle of the ring. This seems to be the common thread in his character in WWE, and fans are here for it. The proof is in the pudding. Anything Danhausen has been trending online all week, and his merch sales are reportedly number one in the company. Congrats to a guy who worked tremendously hard during the pandemic and on the independents to get here.

Rhea Ripley and Jade Cargill finally go face-to-face on SmackDown after days of social media drama. This wasn’t addressed on Friday night, but the two power houses had a verbal war of words, essentially showing respect for each other, but also proving their dominance. This was a fairly safe exchange but the beginnings of something that could turn into a series of great promos as we head to Mania.

Speaking of promos, Reigns and Punk ran it back on the stick last week on Monday Night Raw. Although I enjoyed their first mic battle more, this was a strong follow up. Punk using the, “...bury you next to your dead father…” line was intense and some may say over the line.

Penta winning the Intercontinental Championship was absolutely perfect. He makes history as the first ever Mexican born Superstar to win the Championship. Meanwhile tensions rise between Finn and Dom in the background, but I am honestly more concerned about who Penta will be facing at WrestleMania. Congrats to Penta on this crowning achievement in his storied career.
