STEELERS WEEK 17 RECAP:
KEEPING THE STREAK ALIVE
Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor
The Seahawks / Steelers rivalry has been played 21 times (including 1 postseason game) with the Seattle Seahawks winning 10 games and the Pittsburgh Steelers winning 11 games. The Pittsburgh Steelers lead the series 11-10--0 (including a Super Bowl victory for Steelers)
Mike Tomlin has been the head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2007. He’s never had a losing record as a head coach. So there was a lot riding on these next couple weeks. Could we keep Mike’s streak alive?
Up first would be a good Seahawks team. A team that has always been a tough out for the Steelers. There’s a reason our record all time against them is 11-10-0. The games have been that competitive usually. The Seahawks are also playing for a lot trying to get themselves into the playoffs.
So whose will would break first ? Thankfully, the Steelers might bend but didn't break. Mason Rudolph with his second consecutive start, once again, came out to play ! Rudolph went 18-24 for 274 yards. More importantly, we got our running game back on track !
Harris had 27 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Pickens also had his second consecutive fantastic game ! Pickens had 7 catches and 131 yards. This was a fantastic back-and-forth game each team going blow for
blow.
For once, the Steelers actually had more yards than their opponent. The Steelers had 468 total yards compared to the Seahawks who had 369 yards in total. Pittsburgh would end up winning 30 to 23 keeping Mike Tomlin
streak alive.
It’s now 17 consecutive years that the Pittsburgh Steelers have had a winning record. Our last losing season was in 2003 ! This franchise is the picture of consistency. The Pittsburgh Steelers might not always go out and be the best team, but we are certainly never the worst. This franchise prides itself on being a good team and not having a losing record for over 20 years is proof of that.
Up next a huge game against the Baltimore Ravens. Our chances of making the playoffs are low, but if we can win and get lucky and have some other teams lose, it’s possible. But at the end of the day we kept Tomlin's streak alive and that’s really what matters at this point.
AFC north record
Ravens 13-3
Browns 11-5
Steelers 9-7
Bengals 8-8
