Pittsburgh Steelers Week 5 Recap: The Greatest
Rivalry in the NFL Adds Another Chapter

Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor

Question: What’s the best and most competitive rivalry in the current NFL?
Answer: The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.

The Steelers / Ravens rivalry has been played 59 times (including 4 postseason games), with the Pittsburgh Steelers winning 34 games and the Baltimore Ravens winning 25 games.

Pittsburgh Steelers lead series 34-25-0
Longest win streak
Ravens, 4 (2014–16)
Steelers, 5 (1997–99, 2001–03)

Postseason results

January 20, 2002

Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Baltimore Ravens 10
January 18, 2009
Pittsburgh Steelers 23, Baltimore Ravens 14
January 15, 2011
Pittsburgh Steelers 31, Baltimore Ravens 24
January 3, 2015
Baltimore Ravens 30, Pittsburgh Steelers 17

This rivalry has gotten so close. The Ravens & Steelers have played 36 games against each other since 2007.

Points within the rivalry after todays game:
Ravens: 709
Steelers: 711

So one thing was certain with todays game, it would be tight, it would be close and it would be a scrap. This game was NOT pretty with the ravens leading 10-3 at halftime. But, it’s Pittsburgh vs. Baltimore, that’s what these games usually look like. The Steelers offense was once again atrocious for 90 percent of the game. But, thankfully Kenny Pickett to George Pickins came up big when it mattered the most in the 4th quarter.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s talk about how once again, this Pittsburgh Steeler defense kept this team in the game. I mean there’s no denying it anymore. The Steelers defense is top 10 if not,
top 5, in the entire NFL.

Plus, special teams came up massive. We had an outstanding blocked punt that turn into a safety which then led to a field goal, turning the score in to 10-8.

So now, we needed our incredible defense to come up with another stop to try to get the ball back for our offense. Once again the defense did its job. Unfortunately, we would fumble the punt return. The Ravens got the ball back in our redzone up 10-8.

It felt like it was over. Despite our incredible defense keeping us in the game all night long, they were finally gonna bend and break. The Ravens were gonna put the game away.
BUT THANK GOODNESS I WAS WRONG.

Our stud rookie CB Joey Porter Jr. came up with a ginormous interception in the end zone to get the ball back! We still had a fighting chance! Now all we needed was to get in field goal range and let Chris Boswell do what he does.

But, Pittsburgh had another idea, Pickett to Pickens for 6! We were now up 14-10 and we decided to go for two and failed to convert. The Ravens got the ball back with a chance for some late game
heroics. But, the STEELERS DEFENSE SAID NOT IN OURmHOUSE. They sacked Lamar Jackson forcing a fumble, and TJ Watt came up with the recovery! (God, I love that man)

We kicked a FG, it was now 17-10 and that ended up being the final score of the game.

Of course I’m ecstatic about the win and I’m very happy about how the defense played and has been playing all year long. However, I have to talk about how badly this offense has looked yet again. I
guess a wins a win. I’m happy, I’m not gonna complain about it because we beat the rat birds. By any means necessary. On to the next week which is a bye for the team! Some much needed rest and practice for this team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-2 and lead the AFC north in first place.

AFC North
Steelers: 3-2
Ravens: 3-2
Browns: 2-2
Bengals: 2-3
