Pittsburgh Steelers Week 4 Recap:
Add Insult to Injury

Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor

The Pittsburgh Steelers should be EMBARRASSED to show their faces after this game. I am disappointed and disgusted as a fan.

Steelers fans like myself are livid. From start to finish, this was one of the worst performances I have ever witnessed from the Pittsburgh Steelers. After trailing 16-0 at halftime, we thought that coach Tomlin would make enough adjustments to make this competitive and maybe even come back and win.

BUT NOPE…Sadly, that wasn't the case. Despite missing a bunch of offensive linemen, C.J. Stroud and the Texans just poured it on the Steelers defense. Instead of climbing back into this contest, the Steelers were humiliated just as badly in the second half of the game.

By the end of the game, Pittsburgh hung their heads in a 30-6 blowout loss -- slightly worse than the defeat they suffered against the San Francisco 49ers back in Week 1.

The difference being that we should have lost to the 49ers and were the underdogs for a reason. This time around, we were the favorites and should have steam rolled this Houston team. Now don’t get me wrong, this Texans team is much better than anyone gave them credit for. They proved that last week beating another team they shouldn’t have in the Jacksonville Jaguars. So, I don’t mean to diminish their accomplishments in this game but, this was just a pathetic game from Pittsburgh.

Our O-line is god awful, one of the worst in the league and our play calling is a JOKE. I’ve said it for week now but seriously FIRE MATT CANADA. It’s time. He’s the reason that this was as embarrassing of a loss as it was.

This is the second time in four games that Mike Tomlin's squad has been humiliated in the first month of the season. The game was an even bigger blowout than the score would indicate, as Pittsburgh put up just 225 yards compared to 451 for the Texans this week.

To make matters worse, Kenny Pickett injured his left knee in the third quarter after being sacked and did not return to the game. It was 4th and 1 and for SOME REASON Matt Canada called a shotgun play and Kenny got injured during the play.

If his injury is serious then the season is over for Pittsburgh.

If that’s the case, it’s time to start cleaning house in the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.

The criticism should start all the way at the top with head coach Mike Tomlin. Though Tomlin will probably only ever leave on his own terms, he doesn't get enough criticism for hiring the lackluster coaching staff that he does today.

Don’t get me wrong I think Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the league but, this isn’t the standard that the Pittsburgh Steelers pride themselves on.

One coach who needs to be shipped out the door tomorrow is Matt Canada.

The Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator has now scored 12 offensive points or fewer in 3 of 4 games this season, and putting up just 6 against the Texans is utterly inexcusable. Canada's offense averaged just over 17 points per game last season if you take away defensive touchdowns, and he's somehow even worse this year despite the investments this team has made on offense.

This doesn’t mean that the defense isn’t with out blame because this was a LAUGHABLE effort from their side of the ball today. I know it’s not easy when you’re on the field all the time because the offense is always punting or turning over the ball but, you’re playing a rookie QB in his 4th ever start. He shouldn’t have looked like a pro bowler in the game.

Offensive coordinator Teryl Austin’s game plan was pathetic. He’s also on the hot seat.

Mike Tomlin and his team deserve every bit of criticism they get at this point, and they should be embarrassed to show their faces after this abysmal loss to the Texans. Things must turn around quickly for the Pittsburgh Steelers or the fanbase is going to turn on them very soon. It's time for serious change.
