STEELERS WEEK 14 REPORT

Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor

Throughout The Steelers and Pats rivalry, The Patriots lead the overall series 19–16. The Patriots and Steelers are the two most storied franchises in the Super Bowl era. The two teams have played each other intermittently since the 1970s, but did not become full-fledged rivals until the late 1990s, when they became Super Bowl contenders.

The rivalry would intensify in the 2000s and 2010s when both teams being led by quarterbacks Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger had winning seasons along with several playoff appearances. Both teams also made it to the Super Bowl bringing home more than one Lombardi Trophy.

The two met each other in three AFC championship games during the 2000s and 2010s  incwhich the Patriots defeated the Steelers each time and eventually made their way to the Super Bowl, winning a title in each appearance.

The Patriots dominated all throughout 2001-2019 but the Steelers would show that they are a consistent playoff contender. They have made 3 Super Bowl appearances and had 2 Super Bowl victories from that time period.

This leads us to today's Steelers and Pats. Both teams stink. The Patriots coming to this game only had two wins the entire season and the Steelers who are technically in the playoffs still, but just lost to a two win Cardinals team, who also don’t look great.

Yay! What an incredible Thursday football game. The Pats won the game 21-18. It was actually higher scoring than most of the world thought it would be. 75 percent of Americans took the UNDER.
You might be asking yourself if that was Thursday, why so long for this recap to come out?

Here’s the deal after losing too back to back TWO WIN TEAMS I had to take a mental health break. If you read my Steelers / Cardinals recap you know I was disappointed and really up to here with this Pittsburgh team.

But after this loss to the Patriots, I seriously I’m on the verge of calling for Tomlin to be fired. Now yes, I’ve defended Tomlin for YEARS. He’s never had a losing season. Never had a losing record as a head coach. 17 years and running. But I was fuming after this game, and i needed to collect myself, give myself a couple days to really think about how I felt…

So here’s where I’m at. If we don’t make the playoffs this year and there’s a big chance that doesn’t happen, I’m no longer gonna defend Mike Tomlin. I might not publicly say I want him to lose his job. I’m
just gonna outright stop talking about him at all. Because I can blame the offensive coordinator, I can blame the players, but at the end of the
day it’s the head coach's job to make sure his team is ready to compete every Sunday and for whatever reason the Pittsburgh Steelers always played down to the competition of their opponents.

If we play a bad team, we play bad it’s never made sense. It’s always driven me crazy and it’s getting worse. So I don’t really know what kind of advice to give. I don’t know how to turn this around into a
joke. I don’t know how to make anyone feel better. All I can say is somethings got to change in Pittsburgh. If that’s got to be Tomlin so be it.

Now if we make the playoffs and immediately lose in round one like I expected us to…

Then okay ? That’s not what I wanted either. We gotta start asking ourselves, what is really the objective of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Is it just
to have a winning record every year is adjust to make the playoffs and then go home or is it to win  Super Bowls? Because that used to be the standard every year. We haven'te competed for a  Super Bowl since 2011, 2012, 2013.. maybe 10 years ago ! This finishing in the middle stuff really isn’t working out for anybody. Being last in the
league, have the number one overall draft pick every year, win nine games, make the playoffs, and go home in the first round is what we do. We’re staying in the same position that we’re always in every single year.

I’m goint to let this season finish but things needs to change in Pittsburgh and fast.
