ON THE OTHER SIDE OF HEARTBREAK: RENEGADES FALL TO BATTLEHAWKS

- Kelvin Kately, Senior Editor

The Arlington Renegades (0-2) found themselves in a thriller on Saturday, facing off with a St. Louis Battlehawks (1-1) squad that lost a nailbiter in Detroit in Week1 against the Michigan Panthers. With both teams searching for their first win of the season, this game gave us all fireworks in a compelling back and forth battle in front of a record crow of 40,317.  To put this into perspective, this just over half the crowd that is in Philadelphia this weekend to watch WrestleMania.

In the end, the St. Louis Battlehawks picked up their first victory of the season and Arlington is experiencing what St. Louis experienced in week 1. Arlington built on their week one successes and kept a great tempo throughout the game. The line was also better on both sides of the ball this week, keeping them in the game. However, tackling seemed to still be an issue this week and it bit them when they need it most. The key play of the game was a 41 yard camper by Mattaeo Durant that set up a game winning field goal by St. Louis.

QB Luis Perez had another strong week under center,  finishing 21-29 for 233 yards, one TC, and zero interceptions, Offensively, Arlington found their groove and showed a major improvement, particularly with rushing and protecting the QB. It was defensively that there was a bit of a struggle. A.J. McCarron finished 19-29 for 248 yards, 2 TDS, and no interceptions.

With both QBS having strong games, Arlington's defense needed to make the stops. Run defense and tackling should be the priority going into week 3, where they will be taking on the DC Defenders back at Choctaw Stadium.
