SALEH FIRED, OUT OF RODGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD
- Tom Mele, Contributor
Robert Saleh was let go today as the Jets football coach and replaced by Jeff Ulbrich, their defensive coordinator, in a move occurring in the middle of the seasons which is rare in the NFL and a first for the Jets.

While this surprised Saleh when he was given the news this is not a move taken without much consideration and care. What is on the line is the 2024 Jets season, a season that finds New York at 2-3 and more importantly not performing at a level most were hoping for.

Owner Woody Johnson is looking at a team that has a chance this Monday Night to defeat the Buffalo Bills and take over sole possession of first place in the AFC East. Amazing at it may sound but the Jets would be in control of their destiny for the rest of the season to capture the division title and their long-awaited playoff berth. There is too much talent on this roster and a closing window on the career of QB Aaron Rodgers to not make the move before it is too late.

Ulbrich is a tough customer and maybe just what the doctor ordered, as he will bring a no-nonsense mentality that differs from Saleh's "Rah-Rah" approach. The team will need to find its identity quickly as the offense has struggled the last two games by throwing the ball over 50 times in inclement weather and giving up on the run. Strange decisions indeed but offensive coordinator Nathanial Hackett remains.

Saleh's ends his Jets career at 20-36 after four seasons with two last place finishes and a third-place finish in 2023.
