RODGERS STRUGGLES, VIKINGS REMAIN UNBEATEN
- Tom Mele, Contributor
London- Jets QB Aaron Rodgers served up his third interception of the day with :45 left and that enabled Sam Darnold and the undefeated Minnesota Vikings (5-0) to escape Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a 23-17 victory in London on Sunday.
The Jets started slow and were down 17-0 late in the first half thanks to a 63-yard pick 6 from Linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel whose other pick 6 was also this season against the Giants back in week one.
Gang Green was able to tighten up the defense and overall allowed only 253 yards of offense for the game, but it was Rodgers three interceptions that led the Jets to fall to 2-3.
Awesome Amy says Rodgers needs to be held accountable for this game and his play was below average. Rodgers was 29/54 for 244 yards, he had two TD passes but also threw the three picks, two of them occurring in the first qty which happened for the very first time in his career.
Ex Jet Sam Darnold was solid in the pocket going 14/31 with 179 yards and one interception. All pro WR Justin Jefferson was matched up with All-Pro CB Sauce Gardner and Justin corralled 6 passes for 92 yards, most of that damage happening early on
At the end of the day the Jets inability to run the football has become a major concern. Breece Hall had 9 carries for 23 yards and the last two weeks have been ugly for the NFL's most dynamic RB. Garrett Wilson has a nice breakout game with catching 13 passes for 101 yards and a score.
Rodgers became the 9th player to pass for over 60,000 yards in his career. (60,148). He also passed HOF Dan Maino for 7th place in most yards passed in the regular season and playoffs combined.
Sauce Gardner was evaluated for a head injury in the 3rd qty but returned later in the game.
The Jets face off against division rival Buffalo next Monday night and this game will determine first place in the AFC.
