RAVENGE NOT LIKELY IN SEASON OPENER

- Wayne Keehner, Contributor

Yes... that title contains 2 puns... you are welcome!

Thursday night Baltimore headed into Arrowhead stadium with "Bad Blood" to open the NFL season against the Back 2 Back Superbowl champions. After losing to the Chiefs in last year's AFC Championship game, The Ravens made it very clear that we had every intention of avenging that loss. We even had one of the greatest hype videos I have ever seen with Lindsey Sterling using a flaming purple bow while the overarching theme was... We Rise!

There was just one tiny problem. The Ravens were playing against the defending Superbowl Champions! We got off to a pretty fast start feeding our new RB Henry and leading to an opening touchdown.

After that the cracks started to be visible as our secondary was scorched by speedsters Worthy and Rice! On top of our secondary woes, the main problem was the offensive line, both in execution and discipline. We were continuously called for illegal procedure penalties and when we did successfully snap the ball, Lamar was running for his life! Lucky for Baltimore, that's one thing Lamar does very well!

Despite of all our shortcomings, our defense made big plays when they needed to and we became within inches of a late TD that could have led to a tying extra point. Then again, knowing Harbaugh, probably an "all or nothing" 2 pt. conversion.

In the end we left a lot of points on the field and abandoned what was working in the running game to have to adjust to what was basically a consistent wildcat option scheme!

Congratulations to the Chiefs on a 27-20 victory. This was only week 1 and I see huge potential and upside in the Ravens game. I am not worried or panicked, plenty more football to play! On to week 2.....
