
YANKEES WIN 6 of 7

The Yankees made some headway in the AL East standings this week by winning 6 out of their 7 games. They passed the Boston Red Sox and are now 3 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays.
Here’s a recap of the Washington Nationals and Chicago White Sox series.
Monday night Cam Schlittler shined again pitching six scoreless innings against the Nationals. He allowed only 4 hits and struck out 8. Brad Lord, on the other hand, allowed 7 runs, 6 earned, in 4 1/3 innings for the Nationals. Ben Rice, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Jasson Dominguez all hit home runs. Cody Bellinger had 3 RBI. The Yankees were winning 10-0 until the ninth inning when Yerry De Los Santos gave up 5 runs. Final score 10-5.
Tuesday night Giancarlo Stanton shined with 5 RBI and a 451 foot home run. He also hit a bases clearing double. Luis Gil pitched a solid 5 innings allowing only 1 run and struck out 5. Mackenzie Gore also pitched 5 innings but allowed 3 runs. The Yankees won 5-1.
Wednesday night the Yankees bats came out swinging as they scored 9 runs in one 40 minute long inning. Max Fried had a not hitter going into the sixth inning. He pitched 7 innings, allowed 1 run and struck out 6. Cade Cavalli, struggled for the Nationals, allowing 8 runs, 7 earned in 2 1/3 innings. Trent Grisham hit a solo home run in the first inning. In the third inning Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Ryan McMahon, and Ben Rice each hit home runs. Jasson Dominguez had 2 RBI that inning as he batted twice. Austin Wells got in on the action hitting a home run in the fourth inning. The Yankees won 11–2.
Thursday night the Yankees continued with the home runs against the White Sox. Cody Bellinger, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Trent Grisham each hit home runs. Cody Bellinger was 3-4 with 2 RBI. Will Warren got the win, pitching 5 innings. He allowed 4 runs but 0 were earned runs. Those 4 runs were off a home run by Miguel Vargas in the second inning. The runs were considered unearned because the runners on base reached on an error, a walk and a hit by pitch. The Yankees won 10-4.
Friday night the Yankees stayed hot as they reached a season high six consecutive wins. Carlos Rodon earned his 15th win, allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Trent Grisham hit a grand slam and Anthony Volpe hit a 3 run home run. The Yankees won 10-2.
Saturday was a pitching dual between rookies Cam Schlittler and Shane Smith. Schlittler allowed 1 run in 6 innings and struck out 8. Smith allowed 2 runs in 6 1/3 innings and struck out 7. Aaron Judge and Austin Wells hit home runs. The game was tied 2-2 and went into extra innings. The Yankees scored 3 runs in the 11th inning to win the game 5-3. Cody Bellinger hit a tie breaking RBI single while Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe hit RBI doubles.
The Yankees had a chance at a double series sweep but fell short on Sunday. Luis Gil pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowed 2 runs and struck out 7. He gave up a tying home run in the sixth inning before leaving the game. Martin Perez also allowed 2 runs and struck out 7 in 6 innings. Fernando Cruz pitched a solid no hit 1 2/3 innings but Tim Hill gave up a home run to Lenyn Sosa in the eighth inning and the White Sox won 3-2. The Yankees two runs were from a home run by Aaron Judge and a RBI double by Cody Bellinger. Bellinger struck out looking with Trent Grisham on second to end the game.
The Yankees will get a day off before heading to Houston for a 3 game series against the Astros. Then they head back to the Bronx for an important 3 game weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
