- April Claudio, Contributor
The New York Yankees won game 1 of the ALCS against the Guardians with a score of 5-2 as Carlos Rodon flourished on the mound.

Rodon pitched 5 shutout innings before giving up a solo home run to Brayan Rocchio in the sixth inning. He finished pitching 6 innings, gave up 1 run and only 3 hits, had 9 strikeouts and walked none.
Alex Cobb struggled in the third inning. Juan Soto hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. Cobb then walked Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Austin Wells struck out and Jazz Chisholm Jr flied out before Anthony Volpe walked to load the bases. Joey Cantillo came out of the bullpen to try to close out the inning for Cobb but Judge scored on a wild pitch and Cantillo walked Anthony Rizzo to load the bases for the second time. Stanton then scored on another wild pitch.
The Yankees scored another run on a sacrifice fly by Judge in the fourth inning.
With 2 outs in the seventh inning Stanton hit a monster solo home run into the center field bleachers to put the Yankees up 5-1.
Clay Holmes pitched a great seventh inning before Tim Hill came in to pitch the eighth inning. Hill gave up a run when Steven Kwan hit a RBI single. Luke Weaver came in to finish the inning and to close out the game. He struck out 4 out of 6 batters he faced.
Anthony Rizzo returned to first base after missing the last series from fracturing two fingers. He was 1-3 for the night with a walk.
Stanton, Soto and Gleyber Torres continued to hit well. Judge was 0-2 but had a walk, a run and a RBI.
Tonight both teams bring out their aces with Tanner Bibee pitching against Gerrit Cole.
