YANKEES SPLIT 4 GAME SERIES WITH MARINERS

This week the NY Yankees had a four game series against the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners won the first two and the Yankees won the last two.
Pitching the first game was Marcus Stroman and Logan Gilbert. The Yankees were up 4-1 and blew a 3 run lead in the 9th inning when the Mariners scored 4 runs on Clay Holmes with the help of two fielding errors. Prior to that, Marcus Stroman pitched very well, giving up only one run and striking out 6 in 7 1/3 innings. Alex Verdugo’s bat was hot, going 3-5 with 3 RBI’s. The Mariners ended the Yankees’ seven game winning steak beating them 5-4.
Game 2 saw Bryan Woo and Clarke Schmidt on the mound. Schmidt pitched five innings, gave up 2 runs and struck out 6 batters. Woo had a better outing, pitching seven innings with 7 strike outs and no runs. The Mariners took the lead early with a two run home run by Dylan Moore in the third inning. The Yankees scored 3 runs in the 7th inning off a Gleyber Torres home run, his third home run of the season. The Mariners responded scoring 2 more runs in the 7th inning off a Ty France home run and a RBI single by Moore. Luke Raley had a solo home run in the 8th inning and Moore had his second home run of the game in the 9th inning. The Mariners won 6-3.
The Yankees turned it around in game 3 with multiple home runs. Nestor Cortes got the win and Bryce Miller the loss. The Yankees were winning 2-0 in the first inning off a two run home run by Aaron Judge. Juan Soto had 2 home runs, one a two run home run in the 3rd inning and the other a solo shot in the 6th inning. The Yankees were winning 5-0 going into the 8th inning where Cal Raleigh had a 3 run home run to end the shutout. Cortes had pitched five scoreless innings and struck out six. Alex Verdugo had a two run home run in the 8th inning and the Yankees won 7-3.
The last game of the series, Lucas Gil had another phenomenal outing. He pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, gave up one hit and struck out 8. Luis Castillo pitched 5 innings and gave up 2 runs; two solo home runs over 400 ft., one by Giancarlo Stanton and the other by Aaron Judge. The Yankees loaded the bases in the 7th inning and scored 3 more runs. Anthony Volpe hit a double and stole third, Juan Soto had an RBI single, Judge hit a double, and Alex Verdugo and Anthony Rizzo each had a sacrifice fly to center. The Yankees won 5-0. That’s Gil’s 6th win of the season and Clay Holmes earned his 14th save.
The Yankees are heading to San Diego for Memorial Day weekend with a three game series against the Padres.
