Jets Week 10 Report

-Tom Mele, Contributor

Unless something changes with the play of Jets QB Zach Wilson, fans of Gang Green will remember 2023 as the season they rid themselves of another disappointing first round draft pick at the QB position.

The Las Vegas Raiders (5-5) made it a clean sweep of both NY teams in back-to-back weeks with a 16-12 victory as they went to 2-0 under their new head coach Antonio Peirce.

The Raiders without their best offensive lineman Kolton Miller andstarting a rookie QB in Aidan O’Connell for the second straight week were still able to win against one of the best defenses in the NFL.

The Jets (4-5) failed to score a TD for the second straight week. In fact, they have not scored since the first quarter against the Giants three weeks ago.

The Jets outgained their opponent for the second straight week in a losing effort, 365-274, but too many penalties nullified any offense the Jets could muster. The one scoring play the Jets appeared to have by
RB Breece Hall from two yards out was wiped out by a holding call.

Earlier it appeared Zach Wilson was able to scramble 20 yards for a score, but replays showed he stepped out at the two. The Jets constantly
are shooting themselves in the foot. When your QB play is as insufficient as the Jets, there is no room for committing eight penalties.

The Raiders held the Jets to just four field goals and wiped out a 9-3 deficit. RB Josh Jacobs provided most of the offense with 116 yards on 27 carries. The Raiders punched the only TD of the game as O’Connell found TE Michael Mayer in the end zone on a seven-yard score early in the 4th quarter. WR Garrett Wilson was gutsy catching 9 passes for 93 yards while obviously injured.

The Jets defense was stellar, but Gang Green must find a way to the end zone. It has become obvious this season ended four plays into the season. Jets Nation has a mantra “Same old Jets”. Sunday Night Football Analyst Chris Collinsworth in fact said the words, “same old “many times. Collinsworth's most telling statement was, “The Jets for the rest of the season are trying to figure out if QB Zach Wilson is in their future”. Most fans already have the answer to that question.

Next week the Jets will travel to Buffalo to face the Bills who will be looking for revenge for their season opening collapse in at MetLife.
