EAGLES WEEK 6 RECAP
-Kenny Pete, Contributor
Last week , the Eagles traveled to Los Angeles California to battle a very good Rams team with a returning star receiver from injury who was ready to start his season with a bang. After a back & forth 1st half , The Eagles played their most complete game this season to defeat the Rams 23 to 14.
This week the Eagles are on the road again but it's just a short bus trip on 95 North to what this Philadelphia fan calls "the spaceship in the swamp" Met Life Stadium.
Early on , an 18 play Eagles drive ends with a Jalen Hurts fumble at the 1 yard line on 4th & goal. turning the ball over to the Jets on downs. After official review, the ruling on the field is OVERRULED. Touchdown. 90 Yard / 19 play scoring drive. 7 - 0 Eagles.
Early in the 2nd , an intended Hurts pass to TE Dallas Goedert was deflected & ended up in the hands of Jets Defensive lineman Quentin Williams.
Since getting over a thumb injury in the first quarter of the season , Hassan Reddick is back to his normal form, slicing through blocks & starting parties at the quarterback with the rest of the Eagles defense. Zach Wilson has shown some moxie in the wake of Aaron , the king of the dark, Rodgers season ending injury.
Eagles next drive ended with a short pass to Josh Swift for a TD. Jets answer back with another field goal 14 to 6 Eagles at the 2 min warning. On the ensuing drive Hurts with a short pass to Swift & the ball was knocked out for a turnover, Jets ball at mid field & drive was kept alive by a blatant defensive Pass Interference by rookie Josh Jobe. Jets can't get into the end zone again & settle for 3 , go into halftime 14 - 9 Eagles.
The 3rd quarter was more of the same back & forth without a clear victor in either direction. The biggest play of the quarter came on an unassisted sack on Zach Wilson by Haasan Reddick with his 2nd sack on the day.
At the start of the 4th Jalen was hit as he was throwing to Kenny Gainwell by J. Johnson causing an interception recovered by Bre Hall & the Jets get another chance to Slay the dragon. This was the Eagles 3rd turnover on the day & definitely not the recipe for winning football games.
Eagles defense roars back with an untouched sack on Wilson by Josh Sweat , causing another 3rd & long situation for Wilson. Jets penalized for a false start into Wilson throwing incomplete on 3rd & 15.
Hurts threw a deep teardrop to AJ Brown on the sideline that was challenged by the Jets. After official review , it was ruled AJ never lost control of the ball & a completed catch. With that catch AJ Brown became the 1st WR in Eagles franchise history to rack up 125+ yards in 4 consecutive games. The Jets defense comes back with a huge stop forcing the Eagles to attempt a field goal by Jake Elliot who has only missed one fg this season so far..... The Kick is Up...WIDE RIGHT. NO GOOD. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
With under 2 minutes left & the game on the line Jalen Hurts throws his 3rd interception of the game to set up a Bre Hall TD with the 2 point conversion pass to Randall Cobb complete to go ahead 20 to 14 Jets. Kneel down. Ballgame.
The Eagles clearly didn't play their best game & credit to the Jets defense for making the most of the opportunities that presented themselves. For the 1st time in league history the Jets defeat the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles and offer a bright light to a Jets fan-base who have traversed through the darkest of dark days this season.
